The Return of the Wolves: The Miracle in Yellowstone National Park

For 70 years, the population of the wapiti deer in the Yellowstone National Park in the United States increased unchecked. Without natural predators and despite all human attempts to check the increase of the deer population they kept spreading and destroyed vast regions of the park's vegetation. They literally defoliated the National Park. However, a well-directed reintroduction of 41 wolves between 1995 and 1997 worked wonders: The animals restored the natural balance in the National Park.

From their historic recovery in 1995 to today's current wolf packs, Yellowstone biologists share stories and observations of the wolves that they observe daily in the park. Using innovative technology like bioacoustics, biologists are learning how wolves communicate and applying it toward solutions in human-wildlife conflicts. The film features Yellowstone's oldest wolf, most famous wolf, the longest reigning female wolf pack and two special wolves whose lives made an impact on those who observed them. *Yellowstone's oldest wolf, 907F, recently passed away on Christmas Day. She succumbed to injuries from a fight with a rival wolf pack. Wonders Of The Wolf honors her legacy as she is prominently featured.
