Dr. Harvey Wallinger is one of Nixon's aides who rises through the ranks to become the "real" power behind the president. This short was produced as a television special for PBS in 1971 and was scheduled to air in February 1972, but it was pulled from the schedule shortly before its airdate as PBS officials reportedly feared it might adversely affect their government funding. The special never aired, but it can now be viewed in The Paley Center for Media and has been widely bootlegged online.

Crossing Bridges on Sunny Days, Eyes Closed

Part structural film, part landscape film, this six-screen installation recreates the experience of hypnagogia –the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep– during morning commutes in NYC. It maps the architecture of the six bridges that connect Manhattan to the rest of the world by using an artifact to cover the lens of the camera: the colors and flickers of the videos are a result of the interactions of the artifact and direct sunlight being interrupted by the different architectural features of the bridges.

It’s high time for tomboy Titine to settle down and learn a useful trade. Instead, she terrorizes any shop owner foolish enough to audition her labor. In a throwback to the third episode, where she apprentices for a milliner, Titine drops a carton of fancy hats that are crushed by a steamroller. Then she throws a cake at the baker’s best customer and insults a woman with large feet at the shoe store.
